Single Vineyard Shiraz
Wine Reviews
2008 Vintage
James Halliday – Australian Wine Companion 2011 2008 Single Vineyard Yarra Valley Shiraz Bright colour; stacked with intense cool-grown shiraz aromas and flavours ranging through blood plum to black cherry, licorice, spice and pepper, with a seductive generosity on the mid-palate, but no hint of overripe fruit. Rating 95
This is an interesting wine - it’s very ripe, almost liquorous, yet at the same time seems controlled and distinctly cool climate. The flavours are of blackberry and pepper with a floral edge and attractive vanilla oak. It looked a bit loose on opening, but continued to tighten up and improve over several days. The tannins are powdery and very fine and there’s a little dried herb savouriness mixing it up with the ripe fruit. Has excellent length and a dry finish. Good style of wine. Nearly rated it a little higher. Rated : 92 Points ____________________________________________

The Australian Financial Review 26 October 2007 Wedgetail Single Vineyard Shiraz 2005 By Tim White Wedgetail Single Vineyard Shiraz 2005 (Yarra Valley, Vic) What some might call "funky" or just plain pongy; but all in a good way. When it has a bit of air it gets spicy, and unwinds plenty of mossy plum fruit and integrated coffee bean oak. In the mouth there's raspberry pippy berries a plenty, and a core of bitter orange peel. Tangy and grippy with a long, wholemeal toasty, dry tannin finish. This is Aussie cornas! 93(94)/100

Uncorked The Age Newspaper 18 September 2007 By Ralph Kyte-Powell Wedgetail Estate Single Vineyard Shiraz 2005 As this Yarra Valley vineyard has matured, its wines have gained in depth and ripeness. This shiraz treads a fine middle line between cool climate traits and warmer, riper ones. Raspberry, black plum and earthy fruit characters have a gentle thread of spice and the light-to-medium weight palate has nice intensity. Ageing: Drink over three years. 4 1/2 stars and value for money.

2004 Vintage
Wine Review, Volume 11 November 2006 Wedgetail Single Vineyard Shiraz 2004 By Paul Ippolito “Something Special to Impress” Wedgetail Single Vineyard Shiraz 2004 – Put This Away For A While This one comes from Guy Lamothe who also operates a boutique winery in the Yarra Valley. The wines are made in the artisan style, hand crafted and tended and the quality of the grapes reflects in the wines. His Pinot Noir, that I have reviewed previously indeed is very good and this Shiraz has also been very well crafted. The ripeness of the fruit is really good and the balance of the wine through oak, acidity and smooth fine tannins, makes it very nice drinking now. Smooth well rounded blackberry and spicy plum fruit on the palate, lingers long, calling for food such as roast pork. Drink from 2006-2014 plus. 90/100. ___________________________________________
The Age – Sep. 16th 2006 By Jeni Port Wedgetail Single Vineyard Shiraz 2004 Guy Lamothe has been exploring the different contributions that a dash of Semillon can add to Shiraz, noting e particularly likes the firm acid and herbal notes. Expect a medium-bodied, savoury influenced wine with lots of soft, juicy flavours but still showing some tell-tale cool-climate pepperiness. Open: Sat – Sun 11.30am – 5.30pm. ____________________________________________
Winewise – June 2006 By Lester Jesberg 2004 Shiraz There's a lot to like about this appealingly spicy shiraz. The sweet fruit is balanced by ripe, supple tannins and the finish is impressively long. Highly recommended. [screwtop] ____________________________________________
Wine Front Monthly – April 2006 - Campbell Mattison Extractive from a Yarra Valley red and ripe too, the cherried fruit with an oozing liquer-like quality to it. This is by no means a negative, because the wine is very good. Rich, mouthfilling, structrued and intense, it retains both its vigour and its cool-climate profile admirably, a song of jucy fruit flowing through the finish. Without doubt another Yarra Valley Shiraz of real note. Drink: 2007-2015. 91 Points
