In early
November, I attended a 2-day biodynamic workshop on the MorningtonPeninsula
for environmentally friendly vineyard practices. I was thrilled by the outcome,
a philosophy that has been in my consciousness but that I haven’t quite
practiced fully in the vineyard as yet. Having said that we always have been
environmentally friendly with minimum sprays and no insecticides.
Now we have reached a
new chapter and it feels better already. It feels better to spray the 500
formula for developing soil organisms rather than spraying herbicide that only
profits the multinationals and puts the vineyard on a perpetual vicious circle.
It feels better to spray the 501 atmospheric formulas with silicone
particles in it, than spraying systemic fungicide that creates a dependence on
that type of protection rather than building natural defence systems. All of
which is highly possible with biodynamic practices. One of the many
things to do is to find lots of cow horns so I can insert cow poo it the horns,
and buried them over winter; as to create my owned 500 formulas.
ANY BODY WITH COW HORNS TO SPARE
The vineyard is looking very good,
lush and healthy this year, it’s amazing what a year off does to regenerate
plants. Plants that have been victim of a big frost last year and subsequently
took some sabbatical time off are back with a vengeance.
The very little
that we have of the 2007 Pinot and Chardonnay is looking very impressive.
The Pinot should be bottled in February or March 2008.
If you are looking for your last
minute Christmas presents ….. we have just what you need. Classy and hard to
find stuff.
Wishing you all a rich festive
season and a great New Year and may the penny drop more often.
