Wedgetail estate wines are cool climate Yarra Valley wines, with a European influence. They are single vineyard, hand crafted wines which ferment on natural yeast and are stored in French Oak barrels, some for up to 18 months.
The Wedgetail winemaking style is a fusion of centuries old Burgundy tradition, the new Australian reverence for grape quality and winemaker Guy Lamothe's individual flair. All the wines are produced on site and the estate wines are all Single Vineyard wines with fruit grown under Guy's supervision.
Guy Lamothe developed his signature winemaking style from his experiences in France and Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. He only produces as much wine as he personally can tend to and the fruit is hand picked over a long period, on a row rather than paddock basis.
"The slopes are demanding. the land rocky and hard. Rainfall is low so water is scarce. These factors and the practise of dropping fruit to control yield, produces exceptional grapes. Grapes which display intense flavours and complexity." Guy Lamothe Winemaker and Vigneron.
