September 2009

Looks like the crazy winds of August are slowly fading away.  Over here spring starts at the beginning of August. There has been a major shift in the vegetation in the last three weeks. The bulbs are almost all out, the grass is growing nearly faster than what the kangaroos can eat it, and all the birds are flat out building their new nests.

Talking about building nests, we are in the process of restumping are old cottage homestead, well half of it, since we are demolishing the back part and putting in an extension with double glaze windows and thick walls.  Can't wait to live in a grown up house for a change

The Chardonnay vines have burst their new shoots, they all look keen and excited, ready for another demanding season no doubt.

The north east of Melbourne didn't received very good rain fall so far (it rains often but with very little precipitation)and the dam is still empty from last year;  we know that unless a significant amount of rain drops on the vineyard,  we won’t be able to grow the crop to it's full potential.

We will be releasing are 08 Pinot and Chardonnay soon,  we are sending samples to the press to test the water.  So far we have a good report on the Chardonnay - see review section on this site.

The winter as been good for export sales.   We sold out of the North Face 05 & 06 and we have none in 07 due to the big frost.  Our next North Face (Cabernet Merlot) will be the 08 and it's a stunner, one of the best Cabernet’s  I have made so far….keep your ears on the ground for the release signal.
