Nillumbik Hills Wine Trail

Nillumbik Hills in the western Yarra Valley is Melbourne's closest wine region, under an hour from the CBD.

The Nillumbik Hills wine district punches well above its weight. Steep slopes, lean soils and altitude shape wines with purity and tension, crafted by small, hands-on producers.  This is a proudly independent pocket of the Valley. The kind of place where the person pouring your glass also grew the fruit and made the wine.

On the Nillumbik Hills Wine Trail:

Wedgetail Estate

Experience a tasting inside a working rammed-earth winery and underground barrel room.  All built by hand, just like the wines.

Shaws Road Winery

A relaxed cellar door and restaurant showcasing regional produce, complete with a wood fire and panoramic vineyard views.

Buttermans Track Wines

Estate-grown, sustainably farmed wines crafted in a true gravity-flow winery. Known for alternative varieties, including some of the first Yarra Valley plantings of Sangiovese.

Nillumbik Estate

A welcoming alfresco deck with sweeping views over the vineyard and Kinglake Ranges.  Ideal as your final stop for a relaxed late lunch.

Local Tip: All four wineries welcome dogs on leash.  One of the most pet-friendly trails in the Valley.
